Oil STUDY OF ULTRASONIC METHODS FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE MEASUREMENT OF RESIDUAL STRESS

چکیده
The study of streas-induced birefringence has been continued in both polycrystalline and single crystal experiments. The effect is explained on the basis of nonlinear elasticity theory. Experiments indicate that dislocation activity does not strongly affect results in polycrystalline specimens, however, a pronounced influence may be observed in single crystals. Nonlinear elasticity theory has been used to investigate the interaction of two intersecting, plane, elastic waves in a homogeneous, isotropic medium. A criterion for the occurrence of a strong scattered wave has been derived. The criterion is formulated as a relationship between the second order elastic constants of the material, the angle between the intersecting wave vectors, and the ratio of primary wave frequencies. The amplitude of the scattered wave is found to be proportional to the volume of interaction and dependent on the third order elastic constants of the material. Preliminary efforts to experimentally verify the theoretical predictions are described. This report has been reviewed and is approved. W. J. متن کاملUsing the Ultrasonic Nondestructive Methods for Prediction of Mechanical Properties of AISI 4140 Alloy Steel
Achieving the mechanical properties of steels after various manufacturing and heat treatment processes is significant and essential. In production lines, after producing the specific and standard samples, mechanical properties have been measured by destructive processes which cause waste of cost and time. In addition, destructive techniques cannot detect the miniscule changes made in mechanical...
متن کاملNumerical Study of the Effect of Materials’ Plastic Behavior on Equibiaxial Residual Stress Measurement Using Indentation
Indentation is a new method for estimating residual stress. The plastic behavior of the materials under study can affect indentation parameters and, thus, influences the results of residual stress measurement. In this paper, the effect of yield stress and work-hardening exponent on the accuracy of residual stress measurements in steels and aluminums was studied. Results showed that, for m...

Tube hydroforming (THF) process is used to produce the complex components from the initial cylindrical tubes. In this paper, T- shape component was formed using a tube hydroforming machine and the residual stresses of hydroformed tube was determined by hole drilling method. Subsequently, the thickness distribution and residual stresses of final tube were investigated using experimental and fini...
